The project DDA (Driving Data Analysis) deals with the measurement of driving data of RC- cars in the shape of 1:10.
The measured data e.g.: the speed of the car, the power dissipation, the temperature of the engine an the controller and the RPM's of every wheel, are saved with the help of an microcontroller. These data can be graphically displayed on a computer screen.

Abstract

DDA (Drive Data Analysis) is a project carried out by two students of a technical High School in Vienna.
The aim of this project is to invent a device that measures and re¬cords data while driving a RC- car. These data can be transmitted to a computer via an interface. With the use of a special program, the data can be graphically displayed on the screen. The program that is needed for displaying the data is designed by an person, who is not member of the project team.
As there is only little space in the car, every component of the project has to be very small. Another point that has to be considered is the power consumption. Due to the high electrical disturbance caused by the electrical engine and the power controller an adequate electromagnetical shielding is necessary.
The power supply is provided for by the accumulators that are used for powering the engine and the controller. Another important point is to guarantee the power supply of the board computer, because the voltage of the accumulator changes permanently. Apart from that the current depends on the number of the used accumulator cells and their state of charge.

To complete the project the following steps are necessary: The data processing is performed by a microcontroller. The controller converts all data into digital values and stores them in the memory afterwards. After driving the car, when the DDA is connected to a computer, the transmission of data starts automatically. With the help of DDA the suspension and other parts of the RC- car can be optimized for the next race.
