Job Definition

First of all, what does MSS mean? MSS stands for Motorcycle Security System and is a project from students of the HTL 3 Rennweg. Our goal was to increase the safety of the driver by adding a Micro – Processor and other parts to a bike.

Our whole system is based on measuring the angle of the motorcycle relatively to the ground. With our processor we evaluate and progress the incoming data and act accordingly.

Our Goals

  1. To turn off the blinker automatically in relation to the angle
  2. In case of an accident:
    •  Turn on the warn lights automatically
    •  Turn off the engine automatically
  3. Our system should be weatherproof during the whole year
  4. Our system should work in every situation in the traffic

Details about the realization

To reach that point we had to combine two different sensors. One is an inclinometer and the other is an accelerometer. By combining them we could reach the point to measure the angle despite of the speed that would effect the inclinometer so that it wouldn't work properly.

Another goal we set for us was that the motorcycle should be still able to work although our system might have a crash or an error. Therefore we put some switches in to go around our system. Our whole system is based on a programmable device ( µ P) which regulates according to the inputs the alarm and the blinkers. Which one it's doing depends on the key position.
