conceptual formulation

mobile phone software The main target of this project was to equip a conventional mobile phone with an additional special function. Even tough a mobile phone already has enough functions a new application to improve the efficiency of a mobile phone should be added. So the task was to develop a software which allows the user to open doors by pressing a button on the mobile phone. To open a convential door a microcontroller must be added in the door to process the data from the mobile phone. As a next step the microcontroller is able to control a little engine to open or close the door. Both components are installed inside the door and so no additional modifications are necessary. The data transmission is carried out via a Bluetooth connection. A special Bluetooth modul is able to convert the wireless data into a RS232 datastream. As a result a main socket has to be produced, which connects microcontroller, Bluetooth modul and the mechanics. As a security aspect it should be also possible to lock the door using an old fashioned key.

details on execution

overview of the components inside the door To realize these steps some modifications were necessary to work with the instructions of the user. First step was to add actuating components inside the lock which let the door bar open or close. As a result it is possible to lock the door with a mobile phone and as mentioned before mechanically with a key. Second step was to combine all actuating components on a mainboard. It was necessary to connect microcontroller, bluetooth-modul and engine which opens or closes the door. The bluetooth modul is essentially to receive the instruction of the user and to send it via RS232 to the microcontroller. The microcontroller is able to work on these instrctions and to control the engine inside the door. Furthermore a software for a mobile phone was developed to give the user a possibility to send or reveive messages over a simulated seriell port profile via bluetooth. The software should be as simply and user-friendly as possible.

To station the engine with an optimum on performance inside the lock some mechanic modifications where necessary. Some parts where replaced and some gears where added to implement the opening and closing feature. As a last step the firmware and software where modified to carry out an automatically door opening function. Cause of the bluetooth range of approximatelly ten meters the bluetooth modul is able to recognize the mobile phone and to open the door without an action from the user. If the user is out of range the door closes automatically.
